About Callum Young - Music Tutor and Performer

Callum Young

Born in Fife, Callum started Double Bass lessons through his school in Primary 6. Continuing this through his school years he then proceeded to study with Chris Gray at the University of Aberdeen, completing both an undergraduate (with First Class honours) and a Master of Music (split between Performance and Musicology). Whilst at university, Callum found his love of historical music, and how practices from the period influence our modern performance today. Through this, he focused on the various tunings of low-pitch string instruments and also began to study as many instruments as he could.

Callum works as an Instrumental Music Instructor with Aberdeen City Music Service, supporting and inspiring the next generation of double bassists and cellists.

He also is a Discover Facilitator for Young Sounds, supporting teachers and musicians to spot the musical potential in learners and how to nurture that to promote positive connections with music.

When not working, he can usually be found in the kitchen or out finding a new spot to sit and have a coffee.
